The Right Brain is connected to the Left Hand

If you’re like most people, you may feel like you were not born with the “creative gene.” However, it’s not true! Creativity actually comes from the right side of your brain. Also, did you know that the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body? This also means that the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body. Here’s a few more fun facts about the right side of your brain: it’s responsible for creative and abstract thinking along with nonverbal communication, feelings, emotions and it’s the side that sees patterns and shapes.

You can experience this by taking a picture, turning it upside down and then attempting to draw it. With the image flipped, your brain no longer sees the image in its entirety. Rather, it breaks the image down to individual lines and shapes and how they relate to one another. Your brain’s ability to dissect information in this way can be helpful for beginning drawers and painters.

If you want more muscle tone you may lift weights or work out. Similarly, by taking a painting or drawing class you will be able to practice flexing the creative muscles in your right brain. You will also give your brain the opportunity to practice talking and communicating to the left side of your body helping to improve coordination. Our focus this August will be on your hands. We’ve combined two relaxation techniques painting and Reflexology.
